Tools that make aquarium cleaning quicker. Vacuuming the gravel and changing part of the water on a regular schedule are the two habits that do the most for water quality.
Aquarium gravel cleaners
Waste and uneaten food settle into the gravel, where they break down and cloud the water. A gravel vacuum lifts that debris out while it drains water for a partial change. Choose a battery-powered cleaner and siphon for smaller tanks, a USB-powered vacuum and water changer rated at 211 GPH, or an electric kit with an adjustable length that reaches the bottom of deeper tanks.
Water treatment
Aquarium water treatment tablets come in a 35 pack. Follow the dosing directions on the pack for your tank size.
How often to clean
Many fish keepers vacuum the gravel and change 10 to 25 percent of the water every one to two weeks. Tank size, the number of fish and your filter all affect the right schedule for your tank.
